The project aims to solve the challenges faced by farmers especially in dealing with diseases and pests. The team intends to develop a mobile app that will cloud source information on various pests and diseases.With this app farmers or agricultural officers will be able to share information on pests/diseases whenever they encounter them.Using the app they will be able to upload an image of the affected crop, a short description of the disease,location encountered and the area of coverage. This will assist in community identification of such pests. This information will also serve as warning mechanism for early detection of disease outbreaks. Experts and researchers with access to this data can be able to learn the trends and come up with solid solutions of combating the epidemic that is pests and diseases affecting farmers.This project is solving the Crop Alert – Learning From the Growers challenge. This project aims to help solve several challenges that humanity faces in dealing with pests and diseases. In particular the project aims to achieve the following goals;
Provide a platform for crowd sourcing information on pests and diseases and all relevant variables associated with their occurrence. This will be made possible by the developed mobile app.
Provide a mechanism for community identification of pests and diseases whereby users will be able to help others identify them. This will be made possible feeds pushed to users upon upload by other users.
Provide a model through which experts and researchers in the agriculture field can access real time information on pests and diseases. By gaining access to back end data they can be able to decide how to best deal with them
