study-of-mars-trojan-asteroids-that-may-be-used-as-unmanned-depots

Select for study and application, any of the Mars Trojan asteroids in L4 or L5 locations that could be used as depository for Martian bound infrastructure materials such as fuel, water, or habitation modules, which would be delivered by robotic means.

This project is solving the Asteroids 2025-2100 - Future History challenge.

Description

In order to one day construct and inhabit a Mars station, many thousand tons of support materials will need to be readily at hand, and cost effectively delivered. The technology for Mars insertion is not yet of a sufficient level to complete the delivery in any substantial amount. Until such time, a drone vehicle may transport a vast amount of these materials from Earth to a stable asteroidal "depot" without the need for human presence, and without the constraints of a heavy gravity well, Robotic instructions via laser com-link and real-time video would guide the operation. This study, will outline what, if any local infrastructure would be necessary for proper storage facilities to protect products from degradation, and what further uses could be achieved, such as a way-station for Mars bound crew to re-assimilate and further prepare after an arduous journey from Earth.
