space-hugs

Using internet connections and a raspberry pi we can have a user send a message to a specific astronaut in space, along with a hug. The raspberry pi is wired to an arduino with servo motors, which pull on kevlar threads and create tension, simulating a hug from Earth to space. The kevlar threads would be woven into the space suit of the astronaut.

This project is solving the Space Wearables: Designing for Today’s Launch & Research Stars challenge.

Description

We are using a raspberry pi, the Android SDK, Google APIs and web frameworks to build the entire project. Mac from NASA helped us to get some of the physical materials we needed. We use the data from http://open-notify.org/Open-Notify-API/ to build our application.
