National parks and reserves only protect 3.6% ( 32,331 km² )of Nigeria under IUCN categories I-V

Deforestation rate 3.5% ( 350,000-400,000 hectares ) per year

Desertification of the country = high deforestation rates + increased temperatures + decreasing rainfall

Response

Stopping deforestation is not enough we need to grow back the trees

Any solution to the problem of deforestation in Nigeria must be an approach that incorporates and aggressively targets all aspects that are related to the problem
