like-a-glove

Our project aimed to achieve new ways of interactions between astronauts and their on board equipment. We used android phones to emulate the sensors that astronauts carry on them and achieved communication with laptop computers via Bluetooth technology. Despite the limited amount of time we had, we managed to create a rough draft of what a system like this would look like-.

This project is solving the SpaceGloVe: Spacecraft Gesture and Voice Commanding challenge.

Description

Using bluetooth connection we managed to connect from an android phone to a personal computer and transmit real time sensor data. Specifically we used accelerometer data to derive gestures made by the user and determine what effect they would have on our computer system. Our main mode of operation simulated the functions of a mouse with our phone eliminating the need of a desk and/or mouse pad. The secondary mode we created could be used to browse 3D maps by moving in a 3 axis system emulating the keyboards arrows keys and mouse scroll button for zoom in and zoom out.
