Food security is a widely discussed issue both in academic community and public society at the moment. What is it and why does it arouse so much attention and interests across different public sections? According to Food and Agricultural organization of the UN, Food security exists when all people, at all times, have physical, social and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food which meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life. However, the increasing population creates pressure on the food supply. There are 805 million people of the 7.3 billion total world population (in 2012-2014, one in nine persons suffered from chronic undernourishment) (FAO). The changing climate regulated biospherical condition and the human-driving major land use modification have strong effect on agriculture yields, which in turn impacts the global food trading market. The world’s population is estimated to reach 9.6 billion by 2050 according to the UN, whether there is going to be adequate food supply for the whole world will depend on how we modulate the land use policy, agricultural practice, consumption patterns and innovation trading strategies. This is a big challenge and can only be realised through collective action.
