cats-and-volcanos

The challenge is to develop an app to crowd source the discovery of “interesting” natural events as observed from space using data from NASA’s Earth observation satellites. The solution aims to implement a website that encourages users to interactively browse a Google map to find and tag interesting events. Our Goal is to make the website as encouraging as possible by adding a scoring system where users can rate and comment on the events found by other users.

This project is solving the Volcanoes, Icebergs, and Cats from Space challenge.

Description

-The solution aims to implement a website that encourages users to interactively browse a Google map to find and tag interesting events. Our Goal is to make the website as encouraging as possible by adding a scoring system where users can rate and comment on the events found by other users.

-Our website also contains a database containing all the interesting events and sights the users found interesting enough to describe and share with the world. Our vision for this website also includes rewarding the user with the most favorably voted event each year. This feature is added to encourage users to discover new and interesting sights observed from space.

-We used PHP, HTML, JavaScript and CSS to implement our website. In our website we implemented most of tour wanted features which includes the Google map where the users can interactively browse it and select an event or something interesting to add as an event with a title and a description. The system records the latitude and longitude of the selected event.

-Our website adds the selected events to our database that contains all the previously selected events. The users can see all the events and have access to them to see their location on Google map and their description.
