The project aims to create an app to aid in mapping out water sources that are available globally with the use of crowd sourcing and to make it available for all. The app will also update the usability and availability of water in your location depending on when it was last checked. The main focus for of this app are people that do not have a steady supply or drinking water and have to travel a fair amount of distance to find a water source. This idea is not just limited to crowd sourcing water sources but can also be use to local tree species, quality of local air and so on.

This project is solving the Clean Water Mapping challenge.

Description

769, 000, 0000.......

That's Right approximately 769 million people on Earth do not have access to safe water. In today's population that is around 10% of the total population of Earth. This is a very shocking number considering how technologically developed Earth is.

Team Dowsr's aim is to create an application that will help in solving this problem. A database will be created with the help of this application which will store the locations and various other information about the water sources that are being added.

Some of the main features of the application will be: The ability of find your location automatically as long as your device can get GPS data and find sources of data in your vicinity which can also be filtered accordingly to what type of source you are looking for.

The ability to add water sources at your location and input its various features.

The ability to update the status of that water source i.e. has the source become unusable or is it contaminated or vise versa.

Gamify your experience when using the app and make it more interesting and addictive to use.

Other features will be added as time goes by since this project will be continued after the spaceapps challenge.

The application will work by using a Google maps API, databases, and forms for collecting information. All the information that will be provided by the users will be stored in a database which can be accessed by the Google maps api to overlay the points on the map. The interface provided to enter new sources or update existing information is very simple and easy to use. So people with no technical backgrounds can also make a contribution.

Our major aim is to create the worlds largest free to use database which will contain locations where you can find access to water sources and notify you whether it is safe to use or not.
