mos---muscle-overload-suit

This project is solving the Space Wearables: Designing for Today’s Launch & Research Stars challenge.

Our project aims at fighting space operator skeletal muscle atrophy due to prolonged periods in micro-G environments. The idea is that of creating a skinsuit capable of increasing the necessary work to move specific muscular groups. This would allow skeletal muscles to be permanently stimulated, thus reducing idle periods which would otherwise result in muscular mass loss. This is achieved with a group of lightweight elastic bands and metal ferrules at body joints. The level of extra work to be applied on muscle movement can be adjusted to various levels, which makes this application also suitable for civil uses such as athlete injury recovery or Sarcopenia. The suit also includes lightweight hardware for basic body parameter recording (e.g heart beat, blood pressure). Not intended for EVA or physically demading on-board operations.
